LinkedIn Profile Photo Size and Shooting Tips
Use LinkedIn's official guidance to check photo upload, cropping, likeness, and visibility.
Your LinkedIn photo should still look like you
LinkedIn requires profile imagery to reflect the member's likeness. Artistic treatments may be allowed, but an image that prevents people from recognizing you weakens trust in a professional network.
Center the face and plan for a circular crop
Profile photos can appear as circles across LinkedIn surfaces. Leave space around the top of the head and chin while keeping the face large enough to read on a phone.
Check the source file before uploading
LinkedIn supports selecting a photo from a mobile library or camera and then adjusting position and size. Start from a sharp JPG or PNG rather than relying on in-app editing to rescue a weak image.
Review photo visibility
Photo visibility is separate from the image itself. If recruiting or external networking is your goal, confirm that the intended audience can actually see the portrait.
LinkedIn photo checklist
Update the headline and experience section at the same time so the visual and written profile tell the same current story.
- Recognizable likeness
- Safe circular crop
- Sharp at mobile size
- Professional context
- Correct visibility setting
