Taking a Good ID Photo with a Phone
Take a sharp, natural source portrait on your phone for a resume or ID-style photo.
Face a window and keep the camera at eye level
Soft light from in front of the face reduces hard shadows under the eyes and chin. Overhead light alone or a bright window behind you can leave the face dark.
Prefer the rear camera and standard lens
If possible, ask someone to use the rear camera. Avoid ultra-wide distortion and move the camera physically instead of relying on heavy digital zoom.
Include space around the upper body
Leave room above the head and around both shoulders, with the upper chest visible. A face-only crop provides too little information for natural reframing and clothing cleanup.
Clean the lens and disable beauty filters
Move hair away from the eyes, wipe the lens, and turn off automatic beauty modes. A timer or stable support reduces motion blur and makes repeated shots consistent.
Check the photo immediately
Choose a frame where the eyes and hair edges remain sharp when enlarged.
- Near-front face
- Even light on both eyes
- Complete shoulder line
- Unfiltered source
- Only one person
